Curriculum Aims
Economics is a challenging subject which promotes logical thinking and enables students to connect their learning to the wider world. The subject is well respected by universities and employers alike and provides a good foundation for further study or careers in finance or business as well as complementing humanities subjects such as politics, philosophy and history.
- To encourage students to become independent learners, listeners and thinkers
- To provide enjoyable courses that will stimulate interest and enthusiasm in the subject
- To support students in developing skills in data and diagrammatic analysis, quantitative calculation, and evaluative argument – both oral and written
- To build students’ knowledge of economic theory and enable them to apply their knowledge to current economic problems and issues
- To encourage students to appreciate the interrelationships between microeconomics and macroeconomics
- To assist students in the discovery and understanding of the world around them and to encourage them to engage with current affairs
- To provide a diverse curriculum, committed to exploring different perspectives
- To challenge prejudice and to address the moral issues thrown up by any study
- To guide students in opening their minds to alternative ideas and outcomes
- To ensure students achieve to the best of their ability
